Participants sought for
research into supported internship (work experience) programmes for people with
learning difficulties and/or disabilities.
I am Paul Straitt, a college lecturer and part-time student studying a Master
of Art (MA) degree in Special and Inclusive Education at the Institute of
Education (London, UK), and
in the context of my studies I am conducting a research project into supported
internship (work experience) programmes for people with learning difficulties
and/or disabilities. My research project title is ‘An analysis of supported internship (work experience) programmes for
people with learning difficulties and / or disabilities’ and asks; do programmes
that lead to particular outcomes have identifiable features and, if so, what
are those features?
If you are an organisation offering programmes which include supported
work experience, supported apprenticeships or supported internships for people
with learning difficulties and / or disabilities, I am interested in the
current status of participants after completing your programme and your
programme structure.
Your participation in this study will help to give an insight into the
variation between supported internship programmes and I hope my research can be
used to support an evidence based approach to their development.
If you wish to
take part in this study you will be asked to answer two online questionnaires,
‘Outcome questionnaire’ and ‘Structure questionnaire’ totalling twenty
questions. Your consent will be deemed to be given when you submit the online
questionnaires. It should take minutes to complete the ‘Outcome questionnaire’
if you know the destination outcomes of former programme participants. If you
do not know the current status of former interns it may take longer as the
status of each intern would require collecting. To aid you, I have created a
simple, four question questionnaire to ascertain interns’ current status,
‘Intern Questionnaire’. You can choose to use the ‘Intern Questionnaire’ or
your own method.
Information Sheet:
Before
completing the questionnaires, I would ask you to read the participant
information sheet which includes details of the study. This includes details
and reassurance about how the study will use the information you provide in
confidence.
Taking part in the Study:
If you are interested in
finding out more about the study and may wish to take part, please email me, pstraitt@ioe.ac.uk or
click on the questionnaire links below.
Thank you for considering this invitation to take part in this research
project.
